We celebrated a special birthday boy with a yearly tradition of cake at midnight!
Sweet Winnie orchestrated a ton of really fun surprises for Prince Daniel and getting to witness his heart explode was a neat treat for this adoring little sister.
My only and favorite brother may absolutely drive me bat shit crazy sometimes…we play hard, love hard, tease hard, and fight hard too!
But in the end, I know that there is no one else in the world that believes or is so very proud of me and takes care of me the way my koko does. ♥
Love love love!
We snuck out for lunch and tried a new Italian place nearby.
It made my pizza/sandwich loving boys so very happy and I was happy they were happy! 🙂
I was still feeling a little under the weather so I cooked up a big pot of rice porridge or what my husband lovingly refers to as “sludge”. 😛
This is my favorite combination: pumpkin + tomatoes + carrots + green beans + asian spinach (bayam) + boneless ribs (or fish)
I do it the lazy way = I throw it all into a crockpot in the morning with a sliver of ginger, some rice, and a lot of water.
I don’t even bother defrosting the meat and it cooks up into a beautiful soul-feeding bowl of goodness.
A little touch of soy sauce, some fresh cut fruit and crudites, and I’m in comfort food heaven.
I love when my friend Catherine tags along when I have store visits (she even volunteers to drive!) and it makes my job so infinitely more fun.
I pay her in coffee cups and shared chocolate muffins! 😛
I almost died laughing when Yohan sent me this.
Here is Catherine doing my job for me because she has learnt by osmosis.
THAT’S LOVE Y’ALL. ♥
I’m in love with this grey color by Jessica called ‘Monarch’ and I paired it one of my favorites called ‘Surfer Boyz ‘N Berry’.
Aren’t nail polish names so fun?
But more exciting than that, I relived my high school doodling career. 🙂
I was putzing around in the stationery section of the bookstore and stumbled across these brilliant pens from my youth!
I totally forgot about this trick and boy did it bring back some memories.
(I’m pretty sure this is how I bonded with most of my friends, drawing and coloring our text books in at the back of class! 🙂 )
So if you’re looking for some cheap nail art fun, here’s how you do it in three easy steps:
1. Paint your base nail color and let it dry completely.
2. Doodle to your heart’s content with a pen.
(The trick is that you really have to use these pastel pens or it will smudge and not stick…but here’s the brilliant part, if you mess up, just wipe it off with a damp paper towel and start again!)
3. Let your design dry and seal with a coat of clear nail polish!
THAT’S IT! 🙂 🙂 🙂
I went to see Yoshi for a little trim and came home with a serious beauty haul!
He was brushing out my hair and I was teasing that his “brush” looked like an old school brush that you use to wash clothes.
And then he was all, YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT THIS IS?!
It was totally unacceptable so he sent me home with my own “magic brush” and it made my day! 🙂
I know I gush about this place a lot but seriously, what incredible service and what a way to make your customers feel valued.
I tried to but didn’t pay for a single thing in this picture and there was absolutely no sales pitch involved.
So freaking amazing.
And you know the rule!
When I get my hair or make up done, J takes me out for a date and this time we had our favorite crab curry banana leaf rice at Devi’s!!
I love our little silly ritual and this is proof that it isn’t about the fancy or the fireworks, it’s just the connecting and laughing and story-telling over good food that we both really treasure.
I totally forgot that Labor Day falls on May 1st in Malaysia so imagine how excited I was to wake up and find out it was a public holiday!
I was so excited I even wrote a post and the responses blew me away.
p/s You should like wander.kate on fb so you don’t miss out! 😛
J and I had a dentist appointment and we celebrated cavity-free and clean teeth with a little coffee treat after!
This happy boy and my Salted Caramel Macchiato made my life.
We ended up working really late and way past dinner time. It was about 9-ish when we finally left the office and we were STARVING!
What better solution is there than instant Nasi Kandar and Ayam Madu goodness from Kayu?
There is a Chinese saying that goes ‘your eyes were bigger than your tummy’ and obviously J and I followed this to a tee. 😛
My mom came home from Florida and brought with her this special gift from my Auntie Donna and Uncle Duain.
My Uncle Duain enjoyed collecting crosses and my Auntie Donna wanted to share this precious jade cross with me.
She went with Mom and picked out a gold chain so I could wear it as a necklace to remember my Uncle Duain when I wanted.
I was so so honored.
J had to work Saturday so Catherine and Yohan kidnapped me to their church and we shared a delicious Thai dinner after!
We went to MyElephant in Aman Suria and ordered Tom Yam soup, Green Curry chicken, Fish cake appetizers, Pomelo salad, steamed fish with lime and chillies (!!), and stir-fried Pucuk Paku with Belacan! 🙂
I told Yohan it was my treat so that I could order three different desserts (Red Ruby, Mango Sticky Rice & Mango Sago!!) and wouldn’t feel guilty.
He just laughed and because he is a gentleman, he ninja paid for our meal anyway.
I said CANNOT so we picked up J and had some double-date late-night bowling fun on our dime! 🙂
Please look at our sexy shoes and Yohan’s super gaya skillz.
I completely sucked at throwing a ball down the lane and hitting pins but the biggest loser still felt like the biggest winner that night because friends! fun! yay!
And this boy, how can anyone be sad when this boy is your #1 cheerleader?
Another precious birthday with a very special superhero!
Awesome Xander had his first Toh-tradition KFC birthday party…complete with capes, grandpa-dyed red eggs, minion cupcakes, the chicken mascot and his sidekick Mr Fry, but mostly a host of friends and family celebrating and loving on him from the rooftops.
This sweet boy has come a long way and is such a gift of joy and happy.
Very excited and super dorky aunts and uncles! 🙂
Afterwards, J and I snuck out for a little mall date just to hang out together.
We shared a buttery crack delicious Auntie Anne pretzel and washed it down with some Boost juice (one cancels the other right?) and it was the cherry on my perfect Sunday.
Also, these BOW KNOT PAPERCLIPS (!!!)
I lit up and passionately explained to J why it was so perfect for my office and he just shook his head and laughed at me.
My Monday morning was 1000x more exciting as I unpacked my treasures and found as many things as I could to paperclip because why not?!
But I’ll save that update for next week! 😛
Thanks for reading and being the best friends and kampung a girl could ask for. ♥
Mr & Mrs Goofball!
p/s Did you like this weekly format better or do you prefer the daily posts or don’t care don’t care lah? Heh.
“My whole life I’ve been telling myself ‘don’t be afraid.’
And it is only now that I am realizing how stupid that is. Don’t be afraid. Like saying ‘don’t move out of the way when someone tries to punch you’ or ‘don’t flinch at the heat of fire’ or ‘don’t blink’.
Don’t be human.
I’m afraid and you’re afraid and we’re all always going to be afraid, because that’s the point.
What I should be telling myself is ‘be afraid, but do it anyway.’
Live anyway.” ~Unknown
Better yet, join us and share your happy! 🙂 🙂 🙂
